Appreciating the Sound of a Toilet Flush

(ap photo) click pic for story

After viewing the devastating conditions of the Gulf Coast, I have come to appreciate the little things in life. When I flush the toilet now, I actually thank God, that I live where this is possible. A glass of ice water now resembles a very expensive drink. My bed and clean nitie are luxuries. To be able to walk out to my mail box and find junk mail is a gift. To turn on a light, sit down at my computer, the ability to hear music on the cd player are all special to me now.

I pray for those still standing on the highway outside the dome, they've been there since 2 a.m. last night. One set of clothes, a blow up mattress which they share with others, no sheets, no food service, no radio, just sitting in the 92 degree sun. No home to go home to. Pictures of the past gone.

As I watch this, I cry, I cry for the sound of the Big Easy Jazz Band. The sound of being carefree, the sound of good times. That is all temporarily gone. The rats and snakes will soon inhabit the vacated buildings.

I think it is time that we as a nation come together and the President should call Congress back into session, to redo the National Budget. I think Ted Kennedy should give his state's highway money back so that it can be used in Louisiana and Mississippi. I'm sure there is PORK on both sides that can be cut and put to repairing our Gulf Coast. This is a place where we as a nation, need to rebuild and help them recover.

God Bless and keep those safe in the Gulf Coast Region. It is a time for miracles, and if we come together as a nation, miracles can happen.

An Issue of Great Concern to ALL OF US!

Gas prices are up to outrageous cost levels, while Oil company executives received on average, a 109% rise in their incomes and benefits this year our wallets are feeling a great sucking sound. Gas companies are reaping the benefit while we fork over our hard earned money to them. 2.69-2.75 dollars a gallon is uncalled for and they are using issues like the War and 911 as excuses for it. Enough. I know people will say, buy a bottle of water and see what you pay, well, bottled water is a want, not a need, gas is a need for those of us who have to drive to work, school, etc. I pay a water bill each month, and it is nowhere near what a tank of gas cost. This water includes my drinking water; I can survive by not buying designer bottled water. We need to get our priorities straight. Wants and Needs are two different things.

This exploit of the American consumer is going to bring this country to a halt, all sectors of the economy, especially in retail and consumer venues will be raising prices to cover gas cost for their deliveries and shipments, the airlines, both industrial and commercial, will raise their cost and eventually cut the rug out from under themselves, the average person wont be able to utilize their service, more automotive companies will be hit hard and we will continue to see them relocate to areas where labor sources are needed and they can get cheap labor, school district have not budgeted for such record price increases, nor have emergency vehicles which will cost more to run, thus for many of us who live in areas of the country where taxes support these important aspects of our communities we will see cost for these services go up, how can they not. This will have impact on all of us, whether we want to see it or not.

This gasoline price increase issue will bring this country to an economic breakpoint. Well, I say we beat them to the punch on this one. I know this is a lot to ask, but send this to all those on your email list and put Friday, August 26th, as a no driving day, and if you can do it and extend this no drive period into the Labor day holiday. We need to dip into their pockets for a while and force those oil company giants to fill our GAS pain! Don’t go to Wal-mart for one day, take a vacation day from work, don’t go to pumps. We need our gas prices back down by half. SO ON FRIDAY, September 2, 2005, get out and walk, if we all do it, we can make a difference. IT is just ONE-DAY folks, but it will cost the oil companies, millions. They are reporting record profits and yet they continue to raise the gas prices. What will happen this winter? Jeez, I hate to think about it.

Tell your politicians if they don’t step up to the plate and fix this issue, then WE WILL VOTE THEM OUT. They will spend millions of our taxpayer dollars on Baseball steroid issue and getting involved in private family matters, but they won’t help us as a country. It is disgraceful that PUBLIC Servants, and yes they are all PUBLIC servants, won’t listen to the people they truly represent, but will listen to who will send money on them on trips and give them perks. We can’t do that as ordinary citizens, we can’t give ourselves a raise? THEY CAN! WE should be able to vote on whether they get a raise or not, they shouldn’t be allowed to do it themselves.
Time for them to go and WE need to vote them out anyway (especially those career politicians); they are all part of the problem. Doesn’t matter if they are they are democrats or republicans VOTE them out. We can’t get a viable third party in this country, so this is one you can participate in, doesn’t even take any money to vote em out, just vote and vote against the ALL incumbents. They need to go. Lets Clean the slate.
More on the NEW UNICUMBENT PARTY TO COME!!!

Mr. Grant, you summed it up better than I could have ever. This is a pathetic show of fake sympathy. I can't wait until all the pseudo-intellects like this person and their BLOG sites are waiting in the soup lines that are coming like the rest of us. If she thinks Mr. Bush, is concerned about her or those folk in the south, they must all be brain dead. Did you see where the only winners on wallstreet today was Halliburton. The wanna be controllers of the world, they own Bush, so they figure why not the world. You pathetic republicans are about to see the real deal. Hope you and your petty fortunes can handle being poor. We are already there, so you will suffer much more than us.

wow! Blaming Bush for a Category 4 hurricane.......figures

This is a time to come together, not blame.

If you all think blaming Bush is going to win you an election, good luck!

Yikes Maddie,

You've upset the name calling extreme liberals.

Too bad they don't realize that their foul mouth, whinning spirits, will only bring them down in public opinion. People are tired of hearing all the negative rhetoric spewed by the angry Dems.

Keep up the good work.

Here's a way to fix the levee in New Orleans. Use Republicans. They are pretty much dead weight, anyway. If there aren't enough of them, fill in the gaps with Democrats. No Maddie. It's not about name calling and blaming Bush. it's about making you very afraid of you and your kind. Very scary. Go flush the toilet again. That is the sound of your standard of living going down the drain.

Democrat. Republican. Nice to be able to categorize it.
