Sunday Thoughts

Today I pray for the innocent people of Sudan, who are being raped, put in camps, and executed.

"Since 1998, a growing national coalition of rights groups, religious organizations, and students have been mobilizing to stop the following five genocidal actions of the Sudan regime:
*the bans on international humanitarian air flights that have caused massive starvation in the south;
*the bombing of relief facilities, hospitals, Catholic schools, churches and other civilian structures, which has killed and injured innocent civilians and threatens the international relief effort;
*slavery, in which tens of thousands of southern women and children have been abducted, gang raped, and taken north to be used as concubines and slave laborers;
*forcible Islamization through the imposition of sharia law on non-Muslims, through the forcible placement of non-Muslim children in Koranic schools, and through the manipulation of international aid in "peace" camps and other government-controlled areas;
*the support and sanctuary for the Lord's Resistance Army, which carries out systematic murder, rape, and kidnapping of neighboring Ugandan children.

I would of thought that this would be top priority by the UN. Then I remembered how many Countries who support terrorism were on some of the very Committees in the UN that could do something.

Thought you might have missed me, but quite honestly the reason the UN is not taking on these issues, is because Bush is not taking on these issues. First of all, if we as a society are going to move forward instead of backwards, we need to take religion out of the lime light, quite frankly religion is responsible for more wars in the history of human kind. Secondly, If Bush has any credit left, which he is quickly losing since the White House lies are much worse than what Bill Clinton did (and I am not even a fan of Clinton). Issues on the international level are definately something Bush should never touch again.

I would gladly accept Bush's resignation for lacking international experience, both while president and before.

The US is not the worlds police and if you haven't realized the real reason other countries don't like us so much then you should take this as a warning. The US is the only "super power" left in the world, which easily makes us the target for anyone really. What makes us a "super power" well we have a huge military that is unmatched by any in the world, but more importantly we have almost all of the money in the world, which means that we control the global economy. Since there are countries that are dirt poor and end up having revolutions based on ethnic lines and religious lines, we as a global player in the economy fail to succeed in helping these nations. How do we help these nations you ask? Well for starters stop putting limitations on the funds we do provide, such as in Africa we limit AIDs prevention to abstinence...as if that works? we are dealing with cultures that simply do not practice such measures, let a lone our own country...try safe-sex programs, sex happens naturally...at least last I checked...and we shouldn't try to force them to accept something that is only promoted in the US. However, I know you most likely will disagree with those thoughts.

Nonetheless, there are international institutions such as the UN that exist for the purposes of helping the world, if you think the "terrorist" control it, then I am not sure if I can have a sane conversation with you, if you have confidence in the UN acheiving what it was initially built to do, then encourage your representatives, senators and the one you elected to president to stop BSing the system and actually using it. Oh wait I forgot Bush always makes it seem as though that is what he will do, but since most of the institutions and programs in the World and the US were created by Democrats after the biggest war of the century, they must have gotten it wrong and Bush is trying to eliminate all of them. Well I guess we are in a quagmire until we get a new house, senate and white house...welcome to the second term of the presidency (aka the lame duck episode) brought on with more conflicts, accountability and above all controversy that ends in legal scandals.

Hello Anon,
President Bush is taking on the issues.
Bush on Africa. I will direct you to this link, as there are so many good things that President Bush accomplished in Africa. On that link, you will find the billions of dollars that we have pledged for aids to Africa and the Caribbean. http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/africa/

Now you also have to take into consideration the amount of aid that comes out of our private sector, like (i know you will not like this) corporate America and charitable organizations. Individual/private donations may be targeted in many ways. However, even though the charts above do show US aid to be poor (in percentage terms) compared to the rest, the generosity of the American people is far more impressive than their government. Private aid/donation has been through charity of individual people and organizations though this of course can be weighted to certain interests and areas. Nonetheless, it is interesting to note for example, per latest estimates, Americans privately give at least $34 billion overseas — more than twice the US official foreign aid of $15 billion at that time:

International giving by US foundations: $1.5 billion per year
Charitable giving by US businesses: $2.8 billion annually
American NGOs: $6.6 billion in grants, goods and volunteers.
Religious overseas ministries: $3.4 billion, including health care, literacy training, relief and development.
US colleges scholarships to foreign students: $1.3 billion
Personal remittances from the US to developing countries: $18 billion in 2000
Source: Dr. Carol Adelman, Aid and Comfort, Tech Central Station, 21 August 2002.

WHY IS IT DEMOCRATS DON'T SEE THE GIVING FROM OUR PRIVATE SECTOR AS GIVING FROM AMERICA? IT'S WE THE PEOPLE!

TAKE RELIGION OUT OF THE LIMELIGHT?
Religion is the basis of my life. Without religion...you're born than your dead. Not my idea of a full life with meaning.

President Bush is fully accomplished on the international issue. Even when our Country has been stretched financially with this war against terror, we have continued to lead the way in giving. Relief organizations, churches, temples, clubs, America's students, etc. hold out their hand each day across the Atlantic and Pacific to give aid and hope to others less priveledged. Our Country (it's people) we are the country aren't we, are GIVERS. THAT IS WHY SO MANY OF US CAN SAY, 'IM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!"

Targeted because we are a super power? Sounds like jealousy to me.
I don't think we have ever shown how powerful we are unless provoked. Unlike other Countries like Russia, Korea, and China, who parade their missles up and down the streets as their troops parade in front. I've never seen our Country make another Country feel threatened because of our power. Instead I have seen our Country reach out and try and help others who needed it.

The second term of the Bush Presidency has shown him to be a very powerful President. Hardly a candidate for the term "lame duck"

IF I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE UN? Hello, ever hear of OIL FOR FOOD?
I have absolutely NO confidence in the UN as it now exists. Now put a John Boulton in there, get things cleaned up, just maybe I would agree to support that organization. I presently have signed petitions to shut it down.

YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAA I finally agree with you, you are right! The U.S. is not the world's police.

You may want to do some research on China when you refer to Superpower. They actually are working really hard to attain this status. Why just last week I think they threatened Nuclear War on the Taiwan issue.

Well you've exhausted me for today, I know as soon as i print this up, I'll think of a lot more things I should of included.

The numbers are good for President Bush on the economy, jobs, education (with recent lowering of score gap between inner city and suburban schools, energy bill, tax reform, and God Willing, Social Security reform

Well Anon, YOU KEEP MENTIONING, I THINK ITS THE THIRD POST WHERE YOU HAVE CALLED PRESIDENT BUSH A LIAR.

I'm not sure what you mean by liar? What has he lied about? I have found him to be the most honest and truthful president we have ever had.

Anon 2.

To agree with Maddie, is a very difficult thing for Anon 1 to do. Even if Anon 1 knew that Maddie was correct, it would be an embarrassment for one who considers themself an elite to admit any equality.

When equaled or surpassed in knowledge and facts by a conserative, the liberal is shocked at the nerve to best them. They try to change the subject without admitting ignorance of the fact expressed by the lowly conserative. When all else fails, they start NAME CALLING to draw attention to themselves and away from their losing argument.
