Yodeling a filibuster from Switzerland

John Kerry calls for a filibuster from Switzerland.

"In a speech on the Senate floor, Byrd, the longest-serving Democrat in the Senate, said he refused "simply to toe the party line when it comes to Supreme Court justices."

"My considered judgment ... leads me to believe [Alito] to be an honorable man, a man who loves his country, loves his Constitution and a man who will give of his best," said Byrd, who faces re-election in November. "Can we really ask for more?""(CNN)

John Kerry's call for a filibuster is also supported by Ted Kennedy.

Prediction: The Democrats who are acting to gain support of the extreme left groups, will find themselves supported by an abusive minority who will turn on them whenever they make a decision that they don't support. Apparently these Senators who let the extreme left make and influence their politics; show weakness of character and fear of their own decisions. These loud and abrasive minority groups will be the downfall of the Democratic party.

The Democratic Party has been hijacked by a bunch of kooks who hang out on the Democratic Underground and the Daily Kos blogs- who have continually used hate speech, hate acts, and obstructionism to attempt to derail the Republican agenda. These acts continually hurt America and not the Repbulican Party. I encourage all to visit these two sites, but beware, there is quite a bit of foul language on these sites. These 2 blogs will give you an idea who is influencing Senators like John Kerry.

"Earlier Thursday, Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin, who is in charge of rounding up his colleagues for key votes, also played down the possibility of a filibuster, though he said no decision had been made.
"One of the first responsibilities of someone in Congress is to learn how to count," the Illinois Democrat said. "Having made a count, I have come to the conclusion it is highly unlikely that a filibuster would succeed"(CNN)

“To even suggest a filibuster against a nominee as qualified as Judge Alito reflects a philosophy so out of touch that it’s bordering on reckless. The judicial confirmation process, particularly one for the nation’s highest court, should be insulated from such thoughtless bomb throwing in an effort to remain relevant. One can't help but wonder if the consummate candidate was for Judge Alito, before he was against him.”
-Tracey Schmitt, RNC Press Secretary

Welcome back, Maddie. Quite a few things have happened since you were out. Here is a brief outline:

• The president, trying his hardest to distance himself from Jack Abramoff (who enjoyed many high level staff meetings with this administration) is refusing to release pictures of himself with Mr. Abramoff. For a guy with “nothing to hide”, this sure seems strange.

• News was released that the President received a memo regarding the perilous outcome following the pending hurricane, Katrina, which would strike New Orleans two days later. It specifically mentioned the likely possibility of the levees breaking. Days after the hurricane (the president was on vacation, after all), W mentioned that “nobody anticipated the levees breaking”. Apparently, he paid as much attention to this memo as he does to the memo entitled, “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the U.S.”.

• The president, scrambling furiously to avoid charges of spying on American citizens (charges which would have already be leveled against him if he were a Democratic president), is practicing a tried and true double-speak that has served him so well among his loyal lemmings. Although the FISA laws allow him to do exactly what he wants to do, except for the fact that he would have to report who he’s been spying on (I think that’s why he doesn’t use this law), he continues to try to get away from his earlier lies. “What lies?” you may ask. OK, I’ll give you an example. Here’s an excerpt from a speech he gave on April 20, 2004 in Buffalo, NY while trying to con the American public into voting for him again.

“"So the first thing I want you to think about is, when you hear Patriot Act, is that we changed the law and the bureaucratic mind-set to allow for the sharing of information. It's vital. And others will describe what that means.

Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so. It's important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution.””

• In order to save himself from prosecution in this wiretapping matter, Bush will likely get the nomination of Judge Alito approved, who appears willing to accept any presidential crime, as long as he has started a war prior to doing so. That whirring sound that you hear is the sound of the founding fathers spinning in their graves.

That seems like a lot of stuff, but January is not yet over. It looks like it going to be a really long year (again). I look forward to your spin, spin, spin, spin, spin…

Yet another well thought out response from Maddie. New Year, same simpleton. You know, as a member of the Republican party, you should be embarrassed by these actions instead of mocking anyone who points them out, assuming you actually have integrity yourself.

Instead of ignoring everything, please address just one. How do you explain his statements made in 2004 regarding the wiretaps when the secretive program was already underway? Was he lying?

Shuffle off to Buffalo

I'm talking about his insistance that all wire taps were, indeed, going through the normal process (i.e. court orders), when in fact the secretive program was already underway. In other words, he was lying when he spoke in 2004.

What are you talking about? What does "Shuffle off to Buffalo" mean?

Shuffle off to Buffalo?

Tap dance

as in wire tap

as in wire tapping calls of suspected terrorists

I'm all for it!

Maddie, you avoid answering questions almost as well as the president. Why did he lie while speaking in Buffalo? That's a simple, straight forward question.

Also, if you're intellectually curious enough, check out the FISA laws. They allow the president to do exactly what he wants, except that the law requires that he report what he did within 72 hours. It's as simple as that. When used properly, there can be no true argument that anyone is being stopped from intercepting terrorist communications. The only argument that can be made is being made strictly by either uninformed people who are not familiar with these laws, or by people who simply want the president to be "right". Of which group are you a member?

Maddie, are you waiting for el_mooser to come in and argue for you, or would you care to actually address any issues yourself? Do you realize that "debate" can sometimes be more than simply ignoring the other side's statements while posting pictures of people with pacifiers? I'm beginning to think that the 8th grade was as far as you got in school.

So Bush doesn't lie, as long as you don't allow yourself to hear it. That's convenient. He is truly an honest man (but only to the illiterate deaf people). Seriously, you may do whatever you want, but you look like a fool choosing the path of ignorance. Why have a blog if you won’t discuss issues? Do you just want to be told how fabulous you are for posting pictures with mediocre wise cracks? Is there anyone else in this blog that actually debates issues?

Aren't you getting tired of the the "bush lied" rhetoric you are being fed by the Daily Kos?

I've never even heard of the Daily Kos. I did listen to Bush's speech from Buffalo, though. I even provided the text along with the date of the speech, so that you can verify it for yourself. I don't need a website to tell me that he lied. The proof is in the record. Check it out for yourself.

Are you interested in the truth on any level? I assume you complain about Democrats lying (as well you should...I do, too). But if you only complain about the Dems, it completely takes away any integrity that you may have by ignoring the GOP lies. Do you not see that?

Does anyone but me care about this kind of thing???
